My buddy is a great guy
U
ntil he signed with Silvertone Records in the early 1990s, Buddy Guy had wandered from one label to the other after he left Chess in 1967, except a few years with Vanguard during which he recorded three excellent albums which were released in the late 1960s-early 1970s. Those have been re-issued in a single box-set in 2000, a year after Silvertone released “Buddy's Baddest : The Best Of Buddy Guy”.

A few words about this blues giant in addition to the little bio featured below. First, let's say once and for all that Buddy Guy is not only a unique guitarist, he's also one of the greatest blues singers, and one shouldn't dissociate one from the other, that's what made him a legend.

A legend at Legends
H
e baptized his blues club in Chicago Legends and indeed he is himself a legend. At age 86, Buddy Guy has still got the juice and just proved it by celebrating his 66th year playing the blues with a new album ― and a good one ! ―, “The Blues Don't Lie”, released last September (2022) (link below). Before that, he had issued “Born To Play Guitar” (2015) and “The Blues Is Alive And Well” (2018), titles that summarize perfectly the legend of this Louisiana native who left for the Muddy Waters city in 1957.

In a few days (February 17th, 2023), he'll get onboard The Damn Right Farewell Tour that should take him around the world from North America to Australia, Europe and Israel over an eight-month period.
